Grow Out Your Hair Fast Healthily

Today it’s April Fools’ Day! But hey…this grow out your hair fast with handy scalp massage tips here are REAL.

My previous video – Coconut Oil Hair Treatment – how I do my scalp massage and hair treatment using coconut oil – have you seen it? This video has more follow up TIPS…

In this video, I basically summarized what I do when I do my scalp massage and hair treatment using coconut oil – this could apply to if I used other oils. Anyway, this routine helps grow out your hair fast healthily.

More grow out your hair fast, healthily tips…

Overnight leave on

Whenever I decide to do a leave-on-overnight, I will do this after washing or cleaning my hair. So I ‘coat’ my scalp and hair oil after cleaning it and while my hair is damp. It is easier to even out the oil all over my scalp and hair when damp. Oil penetrates hair shaft better too.

The next day, I washed as usual with herbal shampoo + some drops of oil. The oil acts as a conditioner. I like it this way. This works great for my hair and helps grow out your hair fast process. But really, most of the time, I love my natural, DIY shampoos. I have this herbal shampoo around in case I run out of DIY shampoo and can’t do on the spot, when I need it. Hey…I do slack at times!

As for conditioner, I do not buy any hair conditioning products – I use my DIY conditioners only.

Then I rinsed as usual, towel dabbed and dried my hair naturally – natural air dry.

This whole process really boosts the ‘grow out your hair process’.

Wrapping my hair

What do you like to wrap your hair up with?

I think different people prefer different stuff.

When I want to wrap my hair, I am fine with using my shower cap. Sometimes I use a hot towel to wrap my hair then put the cap over. But if I do it like this, I usually apply more oil, like a deep treatment for 8 hours. Such deep treatment is a good booster to grow out your hair fast effectively.

Deep warm treatment is something I do like once or twice a month. This frequency works fine for my hair condition.

Remember…cover your pillow!

I have forgotten this tip at times and see a stain on my pillow.

When I do remember, I use a towel, a cloth nappy or a smooth scarf to cover my pillow. There have been no hair fall and my hair has been fine and has improved a lot. So I continue using these materials. That said your case may differ. If you see your hair condition ‘getting bad’ or your ‘grow out your hair fast’ process ‘disrupted’, do use better material like satin or silk.

Warming your oil

I like to do this in 2 ways:

1 – rubbing my hands together vigorously

2 – put the oil on my flat dish and put this dish on a mug of steaming hot water

Or…

Use a microwave. This works too. However, I’m pretty much used to the other 2 ways, so I don’t microwave my oil.

Important ‘grow out your hair fast healthily’ routine…

Yep, it’s scalp massage.

I do this consistently – with or without oil. Sometimes, solely scalp massage – nothing on my scalp or hair. I just keep the movement on my scalp and get the blood flow going up to my scalp. I massage 2 times a day, every day. This routine is indeed important to grow out your hair fast, at its most healthy speed.

Have you ever tried like tilting your head downwards?

That actually helps to get the blood to your scalp and this is good to grow out your hair fast – like a reverse flow to your scalp. That said do this for as long as you feel comfortable. Getting yourself dizzy, giddy or even nauseous is a no-no.

Consistently taking good care of my scalp and hair has improved my scalp and hair condition a lot. Even for you, this can help grow out your hair fast healthily, naturally. Like I have lots baby hairs in front and sides. Before was none or very little. And ‘regularly’ there are hairs growing out on top of head (where was mildly thinning).

How long or how may inches, did my hair grow out?…

By the way, last December, before Christmas, I trimmed my hair (behind) and cut some hair (make layers) at the sides. Cut fringe up to below my eyebrows. Well, I guess the layer cut didn’t turn our really nice. So anyway, I left my fringe long again as want to cut this layer thing. So you can see how long my fringe has grown out since last year December till now…see video – you can see this more clearly towards the end of video when I ‘put aside’ my fringe part.

Alright then, there I have shared some tips I use or do when I do my scalp massage routine. As this has helped my grow hair out journey, I hope this helps to grow out your hair fast too.

Thanks for watching. Take good care!

How To Grow Hair Faster – My Way of Coconut Oil Hair Treatment

Let’s enjoy this video on how to grow hair faster naturally using coconut oil – step by step…

Step by step on how to grow hair faster by oiling my hair with coconut oil…

Gently and carefully comb out my hair. I use the comb that works for my hair which is easily manageable. Use the comb or brush that’s right for your hair

Spray water all around to wet my hair. It is easier for me to spread the oil evenly on wet hair. Wet hair makes it better for the oil to penetrate the hair shaft.

I comb my hair again

Pour out a teaspoon of coconut oil on this flat dish. I start with a teaspoon. If I need more, I’ll add. If there’s extra, I’ll keep it aside for my skin

To apply oil on my scalp, I have tried several ways (please see video). Since I’m usually going around a pretty tight schedule, my favorite way is to ‘feel my way around my scalp’. I’ve been doing this many times so I know how to feel my way around my scalp and apply the oil all over. For me, this is the quickest way!

Now, I oil my hair ends. Remember to do this as hair ends are ‘older and harder’ than hair roots. Hair ends need a bit more tender loving care!

OK, quick comb again

My favorite part…massage my scalp When you watch my video, there are several ways to do scalp massage. I have tried all ways and would do ‘a combination’ for at least 5 mins each time. The longest I’ve done is about 20 mins. Then comb again.

Comb again

Now I tie my hair up like in a little bun and put on my shower cap

OK…now I wait for the coconut oil to do its conditioning and moisturizing work on my scalp and hair. And as I wait, I go about doing my other stuff for a few hours.

Then I wash my hair as usual with a good shampoo

And my how to grow hair faster naturally by oiling my hair with coconut oil post is done…hope that helps!

Catch my next video for more helpful pointers on how to grow hair faster using coconut oil hair treatment

NOTE:

I do sometimes tilt my head forward (downwards in front). This brings the blood flow to my head (scalp) – also called inversion. I do this as I massage my scalp. My head goes down and up few times (with breaks in between) as I massage my scalp. If you feel comfortable with this, you may do this. Just remember to tilt your head down for as long as you feel comfortable – not till you feel kind of faint or even nauseous. I do this for 1-2 mins. And this ‘blood flow to your head’ thing does help for how to grow hair faster process.

PS: Have you any ideas to share too? Or is there something (grow hair stuff) you would like to know about or like me to do a post on?

How To Make Hair Grow Longer and Healthily With Coconut Oil

In this video, I would like to share with you – the goodness or benefits of coconut oil. Not only for how to make hair grow longer and healthily but how it works great for us – ‘top-to-toe’ and inside-out.

My point – because coconut oil can replace a buffet of hair and skin products while being a great supplement, food and cooking oil – this truly saves me a TON of money.

I use some other oils too but would sometimes switch oils depending on what I want to make (recipes) for my hair care routines. This also depends on my moods. But if I can only choose one oil – I will definitely go for coconut oil, my favorite

By the way, I have just oiled my hair with this oil. While waiting for my coconut oil hair conditioning routine to do its work, I thought I’ll share some benefits of coconut oil with you – and since I conveniently have my stuff here with me.

Why Coconut Oil Is Great For More Than Just How To Make Hair Grow Longer

I have 2 bottles of virgin coconut oil. These are 2 different brands – and this is fine.

I do not always stick to one brand. This shop where I bought these happened to be nearest to where I stay. So I conveniently go there to get my stuff. The shop is just 5 minutes drive away.

This bottle is about to run out. Then I happen to get a good discount for this bottle (the other brand) so I bought it.

You can use whichever brand you are comfortable with, that works for you. Coconut oil in jars are great too.

You can either use the liquid form of coconut oil or the hardened (white and solid) form. Both are fine. The jar bottles are fine too. You can scrape the hardened form with a spoon or maybe a wooden stick (other than using your fingers). The solid form ‘melts’ into liquid soon as it touches your warm fingers or hands. And you can then apply or use it.

Does my hair get protein (to help make hair grow longer) when I apply this oil?

Let’s look at the label on this bottle.

The label says protein is zero and does not list any vitamin on it. Anyway, as you can see, there is no protein in here. How does this work then for how to make hair grow healthily? And how does this work to keep my scalp healthy?

I will draw a simple picture to illustrate this – please see video

Video NOTE:

When we stimulate our scalp (by massaging it) this helps blood and nutrients go to the hair bulb (papilla) and this is where new cells form. The cells go towards the root and by the time it (keratin or protein) reaches the shaft, it is no longer alive. This is keratinization.

Simply put, keratinization is when cells harden to become hair. So our hair is made from ‘dead protein’. Hair is made of more than 90% protein (dead).

These cells become ‘harder and more dry’ as they ‘grow and age’. So hair texture naturally would feel ‘harder’ at the middle towards the ends, than the roots.

So when you cut your hair, there is no pain. It is a ‘dead thing’.

Knowing that, the hair middle and ends need more tender loving care than the hair roots. I call hair roots, new hair and the ends, old hair. Old hair needs more care.

The longer your old hair is, the older it is – so it could be 2-3 years old and would have a ‘harder’ texture.

When we apply coconut oil onto our old hair especially, this helps to condition it.

Every strand of hair (imagine the hair shaft like a hollow tube) has 3 parts:

Cuticle – outer layer or part

Cortex – the ‘middle’ part or part within the cuticle.

Medulla – the most core of the hair.

How does coconut oil help to protect your hair to make hair grow longer healthily?

Coconut oil naturally penetrates our hair shaft pretty easily. So the oil conditions and moisturizes the cortex while protecting the cuticle as well. This prevents our hair from damage (protein loss) when it is exposed to the environment, chemical and stuff like some hair tools or gadgets. Our hair is also protected from how we manipulate or ‘mismanage’ it.

So when coconut oil thoroughly conditions and protects our hair, we get strong and healthy hair growing out at its best condition.

For the scalp:

Coconut oil is anti-fungal, anti-bacteria and anti-viral. So this oil works great to prevent infection like scalp infection or inflammation.

Even for kids with cradle cap – the front and/or top part of the scalp becomes flaky, dry and very irritated. Like my little man who had this on this scalp when he was a baby. My mum applied coconut oil on the affected areas and his scalp got drastically better.

Use this oil to prevent dandruff too – works effectively as some people use this to even prevent lice.

For my skin:

Coconut oil works wonderful on my skin too. I apply this oil on my skin as moisturizer, as a make-up remover, as something like lotion. I can carry some coconut oil in a small squeeze, pump or spray bottle. So in the middle of the day in case I need this (like when I am out), I just spray some onto my hair and skin (moisturizes both).

For cooking:

I love to drizzle some coconut oil onto my salads or use this oil for cooking. It is healthy and can boost my overall health. It even promotes weight loss and prevents cholesterol build up.

As a daily supplement:

I take this oil as a diet supplement. Let me show you how I take this oil as a supplement. I take 1-2 tablespoons on alternate days. Coconut oil promotes heart health, promotes weight loss, supports your metabolism, prevents cholesterol build-up and promotes good and healthy hair and skin (works for how to make hair grow longer from within too).

So coconut oil can replace a whole lot of stuff I have from ‘head-to-toe’ and this helps me save a TON of money.

Isn’t that great? I get to save a TON of money while making hair grow longer and faster (at its best condition) by keeping it strong and healthy.

Coconut oil is a lot more, than for just scalp and hair care or for how to make hair grow longer or faster.

Coconut oil is versatile and flexible to be used inside-out, for beauty and for health.

With that, I hope you have learned something.

Till my next video, thanks for watching and take care!

Grow Hair Faster Video Demo

I have a special guest on my site to share her grow hair faster story and demo video – someone who is near and dear to my heart. She is my beloved sister, Mae

She had not done any video stuff all her life OK, but she did this, her first video ever for this site. I am very happy to show you her ‘hair care demo’ video.

Mae’s Grow Hair Faster Story

Like many of us (myself included), Mae had mild hair thinning or hair loss. She also had dry hair and sometimes her scalp itched.

Short story – frustrated and desperate, she grabbed any ‘magic grow hair faster’ potion, tools and product she could find. After wasting hundreds of dollars, lots of effort and time as well as going through lots of heartache
– she paid heavily to get ‘proper, expensive’ salon hair treatment.

That kind of worked but not great, still she kept paying.

Hey, in spite of paying these consultants and the salon 2-3 thousand, I could see she still had to do lots of scalp massage at home – day & night.

That was not a permanent solution – she kept paying until she didn’t want to pay like this no more.

She still wanted to keep on her grow hair faster journey and stop hair thinning.

So she had begun using natural hair recipes and does her scalp massages religiously – every single day.

This is a video she would like to share with you.

Mae is a busy lady, so this demo is something she does when short of time. When she wants a quick one like before rushing off to work, this is a scalp and hair care routine she can do, and sometimes leave on overnight.

This works to care for her scalp to grow hair faster. Her scalp has stopped itching and her hair fall is normal (we do drop some hair regularly and it is normal) and she can see baby hairs growing out. Her hair is softer too and no more flakes.

Here is Mae’s Grow Hair Faster using Coconut Oil & Scalp Massage Video Transcription:

This is Country Farm’s Organic Virgin Coconut Oil – Not promoting Country Farm! It’s just what she uses. ‘Regular’ coconut oil works too

Next what I will do is I will just pour one teaspoon of oil and I will put this on a small plate.

One teaspoon is actually very sufficient for my length of hair

Now I will dab a few fingertips onto the oil

And what I will do is I will apply this onto my scalp. Then continue for the other areas of your scalp. Once we have covered the right and left sides of our scalp, the next thing is again, you dab your fingers onto the oil.

Then I will rub the oil like this on my fingertips to spread the oil evenly and I will glide my fingers through my hair.

If you feel you need more oil, you can dab more. But I would suggest that if you are doing this for the first time, you may not want to ‘over-oil’ your hair. Because you may find your hair too oily as coconut oil by itself is very oily.

Now let’s do a quick massage for your scalp. What I will do is use my finger tips, press them onto the left and right sides of my scalp. Then just hold them there, apply a little pressure on your scalp. Hold it there for like 10-15 seconds. Then do the same thing for the front and back of your scalp (see video). Do this whole process twice – or more, up to you.

Basically, for a quick one, that is about it.

Now if you have more time to spare or you happen to be home for the day or so, what I would do is I will put a shower cap over my hair for like 20-30 minutes, like a very simple, regular oil hair treatment.

After that you can just rinse and shampoo your hair as usual.

I hope that helps.

One thing, sometimes at night I would apply oil to the middle area of my scalp, before I go to sleep. This does not give any smell and you can leave this in until the next day – and for the whole day (if you are at home), then wash as usual.

Thank you and Bye!

Grow Hair Faster – Helpful Tips

That was a really quick yet effective grow hair faster routine which I myself do when in a rush.

In fact, I carry a small pump bottle of coconut oil in my bag sometimes. If I feel my hair needs a boost during mid-afternoon, I will just find a restroom (or a changing room in a shopping mall) and do that.

I find this a really convenient thing to do to care for my scalp and hair when I am ‘on the go’ especially.

If I want this even more ‘simplified’ – just do scalp massage – this works too

With or without oil, scalp massage by itself works great too!

And then you know what, other than scalp care to grow hair faster…after gliding your hair with oil, rub your hands together. Coconut oil is great for skin too!

Can you also use this oil for kids’ hair (if it’s dry or needs moisture)? Yes, definitely. Just glide onto hair. Kids may not like you kneading and pressing their heads…

Hope that helps

Make Hair Grow Faster – Caring For My Girl’s Hair

How fast does hair grow? To make hair grow faster, healthily and care for hair, are home remedies the best for kids?

If I said ‘no’ – I would be talking nonsense.

Hey I’m a mum too and love my kids. Not a ‘perfect’ mum, but I do my best to give them the best.

Make Hair Grow Faster For Kids

Children’s hair is generally healthy. So their locks would be growing healthily. I notice like my girl’s hair grows really fast (back when I had mild hair loss and slow growing hair).

Back then, while I was desperately trying all sorts of stuff imaginable and that I could get my hands on out there to make hair grow faster – I see her hair growing inch after inch!

And while my hair was falling more than 60 strands every day – yup, I know…that’s normal but in MY case, my hair was falling way faster than it grew back! At least, I wanted to keep more than I dropped ‘cos I don’t have much on my head anyway so every strand is precious!

Well, at least I see a lot more baby hairs ‘regularly growing’ on my head now than I ever did before!

Back to kids and make hair grow faster…

For children, the concern really is not how to make hair grow faster – rather how natural hair stuff is best to care for their scalp and hair.

But then, I do not go for ‘full versions’ for kids when it comes to protecting hair from the effects of chlorine water in the pool. Please click here to see the ‘Full Version’ of what I do for my own hair care.

Especially during school holidays, my kids love splashing in the pool in our apartment block. This means, being exposed to chlorine and the sun.

And yup, that’s bad for hair, especially ‘young hair’.

So here’s what I usually do…

Night before

After my girl bathes and washes her hair as usual, I’ll apply some oil to her hair ends. My DIY hair sprays or mists are fine too.

No hair wraps.

Then she goes to sleep – cover her pillow with a piece of cloth.

She wakes up the next day.

Ok, just before we hop down to the 8th floor (where pool is), I’ll put couple of drops of oil (usually coconut oil) on my palm. Rub both palms together vigorously so oil gets warm. Then apply or like glide this on her hair.

Then I comb her hair gently. This gets the oil evenly on her scalp and hair.

My girl’s hair is like in a bob. It’s not long…as you can see in the picture. It still needs to be cared for or it’ll get dry and tangled up. As I’ve said, it’s more about caring for her scalp and hair instead of make hair grow faster. But this will also help for hair growth.

Then, sometimes she would want to clip her sides up.

At the swimming pool

Same thing, I’ll get her to jump into the shower area beside the pool.

Rinse herself, get her hair soaking wet.

Then in to the pool she goes!

After all that water fun in the sun…

As soon as she gets out of the pool, I remind her to rinse herself in the shower area – rinse off all that chlorine water.

Then we go back up to our apartment

First, I would comb her hair slowly and gently with a wide tooth comb.

Then she washes her hair as usual – I add honey or sometimes oil into her regular shampoo or conditioner.

But sometimes too, depends on her moods, she just might not want to have anything added into her stuff. So in these cases, it’s just washing her hair with a good shampoo and conditioner – as usual.

Then she dabs her hair dry with a towel, leaving her hair damp.

I help her comb her damp hair gently and slowly, using a comb.

Then I rub oil on my palms and apply on her hair. I concentrate more on her hair ends. Or I would spray on it.

There you go!

Here’s a note though…most kids do not like their scalps or head to be massaged, like a real, full scalp massage. Maybe a little is OK.

Well, both my kids do not like me massaging or kneading their scalp skin. So you will see that I had not mentioned this up there.

And wrapping her hair up? No way.

It’s just the way she is. She will definitely pull the towel off her head. She just doesn’t like stuff on her head or hair. Like the clips, chances are she would remove them while in the pool.

So, same thing – I didn’t mention this in the process up there.

Anyway, I feel in general, children’s hair is fine. What I do up there works great in caring for her hair as she spends regular time in the pool, and I’m sure it also helps make hair grow faster. That process is good enough for her hair so I stick to it.

PS: Maybe you have something to share here? What are your thoughts?

Grow Long Hair Naturally – Do I Go To A Hair Salon?

I was thinking about washing my hair and thought hey Cindy, since it has been a long time, why not go ‘pamper myself’ a little bit – go to a salon to get my hair trimmed (New Year’s coming!), wash my hair and get my scalp massaged. To grow long hair naturally, yup, I do go to a salon once in blue moon.

Do you go to a hair salon too sometimes? And since it’s about ‘grow long hair naturally’, do you bring along your DIY or own hair stuff or ingredients to the salon?

The salon I went to last weekend was a unisex hair salon. This salon is just 3 minutes drive from my apartment block.

I usually trim my hair here, that’s it.

I have not trimmed for about 6 months. I don’t have split ends nowadays so it’s OK to get trimmed like once in 6-8 months. I trim just so that my hair looks neat and my layers look ‘nicely done or styled’. I usually trim off 1 cm.

In case you’re wondering if trimming your hair helps to grow long hair naturally faster – nope, it does not. It’s good to get your split ends cut off. Otherwise, they split ‘all the way up’ and can make hair brittle. My hair used to break easily because of terrible dry, split ends.

So to grow long hair naturally faster – getting your split ends cut off helps to retain or keep your length – NOT grow long hair naturally faster. And your hair looks healthier and neater too.

To grow long hair naturally – it all happens at or from the root. Not the ends.

But I can try best to keep my hair, retain my length and keep my scalp (roots) and hair healthy – this helps grow long hair naturally, at its healthiest, fastest speed. Or in other words, no slow growing hair, stunted hair growth or losing hair.

Back to ‘grow long hair naturally’ at a regular salon…

I also do my scalp massage and hair wash here like once or twice a year – I do these at home most of the time. I did a post about how I do it at home. Thought I’ll also share about how a regular salon over here does it…

Just a note here:

I usually ‘plan’ to go the salon the next day. So the night before, I would usually wash my hair as usual, apply oil on my scalp and massage. Then leave oil in my hair till next day. Then I go to the salon before noon. Salon opens around 10am.

My hair is comb and ‘smoothed out’ using a wide tooth comb, then a ventilated hair brush.

Water is sprayed on my hair and a dollop of shampoo is applied. I can bring my own DIY shampoo here too. Or if I want her to add a bit of oil or honey, I can just bring along and she’ll add this in.

Then during shampooing part, she massages my scalp. Look at the picture. She massages from below, back of my neck, moving upwards to my scalp and to the top of my scalp using her finger tips.

Then if I want, I can also get my neck (back) and shoulders blade (upper shoulders, back) massaged.

After all that, it’s time to rinse my hair. We go behind where there are 2 ‘long black chairs’ – as you can see in the picture. At one end is a sink attached to the headrest of the chair. So I rest my head there while she rinses my hair.

During rinsing part, I can also bring along my own DIY conditioner, oil or honey – whatever you like – and she’ll use it to condition my hair. Then rinse again. She uses lukewarm water.

Then she dabs my hair with a soft towel. Avoid rubbing or tugging at hair. Then she ‘combs out’ my hair using a wide tooth comb, then a ventilated hair brush.

Then I get my hair trimmed. Then I rub bit of oil on my palms and apply it to my hair ends. And that’s about it. My hair looks and feels good, and I feel refreshed too after that massage.

Another bit, I do not blow dry my hair. No hot hair dryers for me as far as I can help it. Or perms, or hot curls or stuff like that. I leave the salon with my hair almost dry (by the time I finish getting it trimmed).

My girl (left picture) also gets her hair trimmed as school holidays are almost over.

My little guy on the other hand, gets his hair cut at an Indian barber – you can see what this is in the right picture. Only men get their hair cut here.

So there’s a bit of pampering for me with minimum cost.

And that process in the salon + my DIY or natural hair ingredients that I bring along to use – in its own way helps grow long hair naturally.

Ever since I discovered my DIY hair recipes that could give me healthy scalp and healthy hair growth (at its naturally best speed), I stopped my hair specialist treatments, products, tools, one to one consultations and ‘pamperings’. These had been costing me arms and legs for some time.

But I did learn lots and learned how to tweak lots of stuff – while saving tons of dollars and cents!

How do you pamper your scalp and hair to grow long hair naturally?

Have you any helpful stuff for us to pick up?

Till my next post, HAVE A MERRY CHRISTMAS & HAPPY 2013!

Oil Hair Treatment

Do you swim often? If you do, do you often swim in a swimming pool? I remember when I took my hair for granted and spent 1-2 hours in the swimming pool 3-4 times a week, my hair got dry, fizzy and I had to literally tug at my hair to get the knots and tangles out. But NOT anymore. Since I realized how chlorine can really dry up my hair, I do my own oil hair treatment – before & after I have fun in a pool of chlorinated water.

As long as I keep to my oil hair treatment, managing my hair is easy and enjoyable. And since it’s literally summer all year round here, I can swim almost every day (with kids especially during school holidays) and still keep my hair smooth and easy to manage.

So what do I do for oil hair treatment? Here is the step-by-step Full Version…

Oil Hair Treatment The Night Before

This is something I do for an extra ‘oomph’ to treat and protect my hair. Anyway, even when I do not swim the next day, I sometimes do this as basic oil hair treatment. But especially when I know I’ll be jumping into the pool and spending some time in the sun the next morning or afternoon – I usually do this the night before.

So this is like oil hair treatment all through the night. Here’s how it goes…

I wash my hair as usual. If you have dry hair or hair that gets tangled up easily, you may want to comb your hair before washing it – every time.

I use a good, mild shampoo with a dollop of honey (as conditioner). As conditioner at times, I use milk and honey or plain yogurt and honey – It is really up to what you like. If you wash your hair daily or know your hair is pretty clean, there is no need to add or use shampoo. Just conditioning will do. And importantly, a good scalp massage.

Rinse well. Dab my hair dry leaving it moist. Then I comb my hair.

For oil hair treatment, I apply virgin coconut oil or avocado oil (choose the essential oil you like) on my scalp and massage my scalp (roots). Then I rub a bit on my palms and apply on hair ends.

I leave my hair this way (no wraps) for an hour. Then I go to sleep. Remember to cover your pillow with a cloth, towel or I use a cloth nappy. This is OK for me, but the best material is silk or smooth cloth or pillow case. So what’s happening here is oil hair treatment throughout the night

Wake up next day, comb my hair.

Oil Hair Treatment Before I Go To The Pool

I shall continue from up there…

I comb my hair. As my hair still has a thin layer of oil and was ‘deep conditioned’ the night before, I leave this as it is. But if I had not done anything the night before – I will massage my scalp with a little oil. Then apply oil to the ends of my hair. But if you have dry hair and feel your hair needs that bit more, then get a bit more oil, rub your palms together (this warms the oil too) and apply to your hair.

Some may use store bought hair products like moisturizers and conditioners specially formulated for this – this is up to you. So far, my oils have been working great for me.

Then I comb my hair again.

Then I clip my fringe and sides up to the back. Sometimes, I do two loose pony tails, side by side, as my fringe is long enough to tie up to the sides. Loose means I do not pull my hair tightly back. When my hair is tied up, this prevents tangles as I swim & flip my hair. And I use easy to slide off hair bands to tie my hair. Then of course, you can also leave your hair loose – though you will have to comb your hair out later on. Also, you can braid your hair or bundle it up.

Somehow, I can’t use swimming caps. I have tried them and each time it ‘pulls at’ my hair no matter what type of material I use. Anyway, I feel my hair is better off without this.

I now head down to the swimming pool on the 8th floor of my apartment block…

I take a shower at the side of the pool (before actually jumping into the pool). I thoroughly wet my hair. When my hair is soaking wet and has a thin layer of oil, this protects my hair better from negative effects of chlorine water and the heat of the sun.

Then I jump into the pool and ENJOY

Now, if you want to get some sun burn while you are here, just after you get out of the water, go take a shower to wash off all that chlorine water. Then while you get your sun burn, do cover your hair with something – a scarf, a hat…something you like. And keep yourself hydrated by drinking water.

Oil Hair Treatment After A Fun Time In The Pool And The Sun

So I have had a fantastic time in the pool with my kids. After all that chlorinated, hot exposure, now is time to pamper my scalp and hair with deep conditioning oil hair treatment.

Remove hair accessories, shake and loosen up hair. Then I comb my hair with tender loving care – use a wide tooth comb.

Rinse hair with water.

Wash hair using good shampoo. Some may want to use specially formulated shampoo for cleaning away chlorine, which you can buy from the shop – this is up to you. So far, I have been using my regular good shampoo and sometimes I may add lemon juice which works fine.

Apply conditioner with a dollop of honey. You may also use like avocado oil, rosemary oil or what you like.

Rinse well. Dab hair with towel, leaving it moist. Then comb gently.

Apply oil to my scalp as I give my scalp a good round of massage. You may warm the oil if you want.

Apply several drops to palms, rub palms vigorously together (this also warms the oil) and apply to hair ends. Or as needed if you have dry hair.

Wrap hair up in a towel (you may also warm this towel). Put a shower cap over this. Leave for an hour. Go read a book or do online stuff…

Then rinse well. If you feel your hair too oily, just rinse with diluted lemon juice or use a little bit of shampoo. Anyway, if you wash it too dry, you can still spray some moisturizer to hair ends later.

Dab, towel dry. Comb gently. Leave my hair to dry naturally.

There you go! That’s my oil hair treatment when I swim

Just so you know, all those steps up there can be tweaked to suit your situation or routines. You may even skip some steps okay

So it is summer for 365 days here and with my DIY oil hair treatment, I can swim 3-4 times every week, whole year round if I want to.

I really enjoy doing my hair stuff especially exploring natural stuff for my scalp and hair. In spite of 365 days of shine here, those oil hair treatment steps I do have worked great for my scalp and hair on all my ‘swimming days’.

For those going into summer, and love having fun in the pool, I hope you find my oil hair treatment tips helpful. Let me know if you have tips to share too! :-)

Meantime…ENJOY

PS: If you find this helpful, remember to ‘socially’ share this goodie ;-)

Faster Hair Growth

If you have read all about fast hair growth stuff on the Net, you may already know some of these hair myths. Other than the myth about hair being able to grow like an inch in a week (this is definitely false) or ‘almost overnight’, there are other faster hair growth myths to dispel and then learn about the REAL stuff that can help with faster hair growth.

But bear in mind that hair growth depends on many factors (as I have repeatedly shared on my site) and I’m sharing a bit of it here.

Okay, let’s look at some faster hair growth Myths:

Myth 1 – Trimming my hair makes it grow longer faster?

Nope. You see, your follicles (means, health of your scalp) determine the speed and how healthy your hair is or grows – not your hair ends. But trimming away split ends make your mane look healthy. And if you do have split ends, you would want to trim them off.

Otherwise, they would ‘split all the way up’ or become brittle or break, which is not what I want. And I don’t like how split ends are – my hair looks thin, unhealthy and like ‘off-color’ too. Fyi too, hair with split ends tend to grow out slower – ‘stunted growth’.

Anyway, I don’t have split ends now. My hair texture is smooth and easily manageable, and I’m able to retain my hair much better. So although I trim my hair like once in about 2 months, it is not to cut off split ends. I go for trims to get my hair ‘back in shape’ or so the layers look ‘neater and nicer’.

Myth 2 – Cold or ice water rinse retains your hair (meaning, less hair fall) & makes it look shiny

I’ll be honest – I’m not 110% sure about this BUT there are many who say they have experienced less hair fall when they ‘ice water’ or ‘cold water’ rinse their hair. Even some hairstylists say this – in fact I did ask the hair salon and the stylists thought the same. Well, the logic behind this is – ice or cold water shrinks our pores (follicles) and so hair doesn’t fall easily – simple picture, imagine the pores ‘tightening’ your hair to your scalp

On the other hand – warm or hot water opens skin pores (on scalp), hence ‘loosening’ and causing hair to fall or hair falls ‘easily’. Do you get the picture?

So maybe the logic about ice water retaining hair is true?

As for making hair more shiny…well, hair is dead. I mean, do you feel pain when your hair is cut? No right…so chemists say hair can’t react to cold or hot stuff. But using conditioners, sprays or moisturizers or such natural ingredients help give your hair that healthy shine or glow.

And keeping your hair away from hot, dry air like blow dryers or ‘hot tools’ or things like hair straighteners minimizes damage to your hair.

From my ‘cold or warm water hair rinse’ experiences – not much difference really, if you talk about rinsing hair and cold water keeps my hair ‘tightened to my scalp’. It would’ve been good though, if it worked on me and would’ve been another option to ‘save my hair’ from thinning. I would be delighted

For me, scalp massage – how I did it, the frequency and what I used made the difference. Even now, when I’m consistent, it’s less or normal hair fall (it is really natural to lose some hair). And I have baby hairs growing out.

But when I slacked in my routines – in like 2 weeks, I will see my hair falling more than usual. My baby hairs are still there and growing out, but my hair would be falling more than usual. So overall, I know if this continues, my hair gets thinner, although it’s still growing. But I want to retain my hair too. So I would then ‘get back on track’ with my routines.

I must get back on track – otherwise if I keep slacking my hair routines, my hair not only keeps falling more, but it also may not grow at its healthiest, best speed.

Anyway, bottom line for faster hair growth – take good care in all ‘relevant factors’ of your scalp and hair every day or regularly.

Myth 3 – Keep brushing your hair like 100 strokes per day!

Really?!

Honestly, I heard something along the same lines from my grandma. And my sister-in-law said the same thing – just 2 months ago!

Well, my two-cents on this would be yeah, stroking or brushing my hair (or rather scalp) is form of good massage (as you have seen my paddle brush in my previous blog post). And especially when I’m just sitting down reading stuff online – this is a very convenient way to massage my scalp. And gets my natural oils to ‘spread evenly’ on my scalp to keep it moisturized.

But 100 strokes? Every day? Hhmm…I would think that is overdoing it and will instead cause friction that damages my hair.

And I always feel too much of a good or even best thing, at the end of the day, can be bad or do more harm than good.

And this also really depends on your kind of hair. How much brushing can you hair take? What kind of paddle brush and bristles are you using? What is your hair exposed to every day?

So to be honest – nope, I guess most of us would not need to brush our hair or scalp 100 strokes every day. And is there an exact number? No either. Because this really depends…on those questions up there. But basically, brushing or combing (with a wide tooth comb) to remove tangles and smoothen out hair is necessary. And sometimes, massage your scalp – to do this, fingertips are still your best bet! ;-)

Myth 4 – You CAN repair split ends!

Before you jump with delight and joy…FALSE

You cannot ‘patch up’ or ‘repair’ split ends.

The one and only way to get rid of split ends is to CUT it with a pair of good scissors (yup, use the right scissors). Period.

And yes, you can cut off your split ends at home – again, use a good scissors. Blunt ones can make your split ends worse.

Myth 5 – Shampooing and washing your hair every day ‘spoils’ & dries your hair

NO. The important thing here is to use a good shampoo – rather, the shampoo that best suits your hair.

As you know, I’m a lover of make-my-own ‘hair potions’. So I do wash my hair every day – and it’s doing fine. And this reminds me of a related myth – it is OK to change hair potions – as long as the potion does not damage and is not ‘harsh’ on your hair. That said, if you like the same stuff, it is also OK to stick with it! ;-)

Know your hair type and use ‘hair potions’ or stuff best suited to your hair.

And if you use the best suited one – this is good for your scalp and hair. Or if you’re still concern, you can just like ‘light-wash’ your hair using just water OR just condition your hair, massage your scalp, and rinse off. Fyi, scalp massage, other than for blood circulation up to your scalp, it also removes dirt and dead skin cells.

Another related point – is the conditioner ‘effective’ since you’re rinsing it off?

YES, it is. You can actually feel the ‘layer’ of moist that still protects your hair and keep it moisturized. And you can see that shine on your hair too.

Myth 6 – Natural Products (as labelled) you see in shops, are ALL natural

NOPE. I know this for sure because even hair or soap stuff I see in health shops or pharmacies – although labelled “All Natural” – to my dismay, has chemicals. The most common one being Sodium Laureth Sulfate. According to Wikipedia, SLS is a ‘detergent and surfactant’. Imagine, detergent…on my scalp & hair? Even in baby shampoo!

BEING A MOTHER – for the best and safety for my kids – I’ve turned into a lover of all natural make-it-myself hair products.

Another thing here – stuff you get from hair salons (especially specialist hair salons) are relatively better quality than what is sold in regular shops or marts. It is better quality in terms of better ingredients to moisturize and care for your hair. BUT most of the time, these products do have some chemicals as well. And you pay bit more for salon stuff.

Well, there you go! Some myths and ‘related myths’ you can ‘chew on’…

Hope all that info also, kind of gives you an idea about what factors affect faster hair growth, in general. Still bottom line – caring for your scalp and hair in your every day hair routines and lifestyle as well as diet, helps. And remember to stay positive and SMILE!

Oil In Your Hair – On The Beach & At Home

Do you like going to the beach? Or having fun in the sun? And when you do, do you ‘protect’ your hair and skin while you have a good time in the heat? Do you use oil in your hair? Well, for skin I use sunscreen lotion, then I use oil in my hair – like ‘spray’ or moist my hair.

As I shared, I carry my little pump bottle of hair spray (an essential oil I like mixed with water) and use as a spray or moisturizer whenever I need. Yup, it is important to have a little oil in your hair like a sunscreen for your hair. What do I do for my hair when I’m having fun on the beach and when I get back home?

I was at Port Dickson beach last weekend with my dad, mum, sister and kids – we had a really good time. Come to think of it, it has been quite a while since I took my kids to the beach. So they had a blast for 3 hours on the beach! My sister also drove us around Port Dickson – visited the small town, a couple of beaches, sight- seeing stuff.

My girl and my boy on the beach – we have just arrived on one of the beaches (Blue Lagoon) @ Port Dickson.

Since it was a day out, we went to the nearest ‘beach place’ to the city. It is like about 90 minutes drive. It was a simple and ‘economical’ trip really. And we also packed some home cooked food to bring along there. Port Dickson is no fancy place. Just somewhere my kids can have lots of fun in the sand, jumping over waves, picking shells, do seaside stuff.

What oil in your hair can you use – to make your spray?

Really, it is up to what you like and what suits your hair – if you have a certain condition like dry hair, curly hair, thick hair, frizzy hair, etc.

The oil in your hair can be lavender oil (like this smell), rosemary oil, virgin coconut oil (my favorite), sesame oil, avocado oil (like this too), chamomile oil (relaxes me), jojoba oil, etc.

What you chose as the oil in your hair – just mix it with some water. When you need to use, give the bottle a little shake, then spray – Easy and handy oil in your hair.

OR you can have something to cover your head – like a cap, hat, scarf, bandana etc. I like caps the most, at times bandanas. And a must have – sunglasses.

What do you do or use for oil in your hair, after all that fun in the sun, when you get back home?

For me, after settling all my stuff and my kids – I do a scalp massage. Then I wash my hair as usual. Then dab my hair, leaving it damp.

l leave my hair damp

Apply on ‘scalp lines’ first. Then on hair ends.

Now I apply virgin coconut oil on my scalp – and another little round of scalp massage. Then moist my hair ends. Now, I wrap my hair in a shower cap and leave it this way for some time. Then I do the laundry and stuff while waiting.

When I am done with doing stuff around my apartment, I get in the shower, light wash and rinse my hair. If I feel it is still ‘too oily’ I rinse more. Same for you, if you feel still too much oil in your hair, rinse again, or lightly shampoo if really need to.

And even if you feel you have rinsed too much and your hair is too dry – just spray or moist your hair as needed after your shower.

AND if you have dry hair or feel after ALL that sun and heat burning your scalp and hair – you want another round of treatment of oil in your hair – go for it!

Your other round of treatment can be done before you go to bed. Just apply oil-of-your-choice on your scalp (I like virgin coconut oil for overnight do) massage a little, and leave overnight. Then wash, rinse as usual when you wake up the next day.

Do note though, depending on your scalp and hair condition – choose the right oil that is OK for leave on overnight. Certain oils may be ‘too strong’ or may cause irritations. Like for me, I avoid sesame oil for overnight because my scalp gets irritated when I leave this on for too long (not sure why though).

So enjoy and have a dynamite time in the sun and then DO your oil in your hair thing – because your scalp and hair should be treated and pampered with care, especially after a ‘burning’ time in the sun.

ENJOY!

PS: More pictures here! Ya know, 2 pictures I wanted – these are like personal gifts ’TQ pixs in the sand’ - to my ‘Inspiration’ and my mobile battery died!
