Stop Hair Loss And Regrow Hair Using Treatment And Pills

As I have shared, I used to have mild hair loss or hair thinning. There are basically two scenarios here. If like me, you are experiencing some hair lost or hair thinning in some parts of your hair (but not balding), then most likely natural remedies (or something like my hair stuff and routines) can help restore the health of your scalp and lead to healthy hair growth. In my case, natural ways can be help to stop hair loss and regrow hair.

My condition is not caused by my genes, fungus or infection. It happened more of because I did not take good care of my scalp and hair. My lifestyle and diet made it worse too. Then the salon treatments and products became a heavy burden to keep paying for, to maintain my hair (to keep my scalp healthy and hair looking nice).

My problem was also having dry, fizzy hair, with some split ends, that was ‘troublesome’ to manage – especially after a swim or time out in the sun. And not having a healthy scalp, meant my hair grew slower than it should (if my scalp was healthy), and falling faster than it grew back.

The hardest part I felt was the heavy ‘money burden’ I kept having to fork out for specialist visits or regular consultations and salon treatments, despite still having to follow up with doing all the hair routines at home.

My past treatments did not need drugs or medication. They were more natural based – like consistent massage, herbs and oils – though consistent scalp massage played the key role. And I did change my diet and how I lived – beginning with putting in effort and to commit to take care of myself, scalp and hair consistently – especially during my first 8 months to a year.

I remember how delighted I was when I first realised like 10-15 baby hairs had been gradually growing out!  🙂

So for my case, some ‘tips’ I have learned from some past treatments, with all my trials-and-errors hair stuff and routines helped my condition, restored and maintained my healthy scalp and hair, is cheaper – and without treatment like minoxidil or finasteride. But this may or may not be for your case.

If you experience hair loss that leads to balding or lost all of your hair in any part of your scalp, and most likely due to genetics, then natural remedies may not work for you. To stop hair loss and regrow hair in such cases, you should need treatment like using minoxidil or finasteride.

As I have shared, in all cases, you must first see your doctor or hair specialist. Get a first analysis and consultation about your scalp and hair. Then you know where you are and what to do, or not do. You get a clear picture and direction to stop hair loss and regrow hair.

You need to know your scalp and hair situation and condition before doing or deciding anything to stop hair loss and regrow hair. In fact, to have a list of questions prepared, that you want to ask the specialist is even better.

And if you have androgenic alopecia, scalp and hair disease or hair loss caused by genetics, you need treatment. And in certain cases, Ayurveda (treatment regularly done by the specialist or salon) may also work. My Hair Accelerator System can very well, compliment the process and your daily scalp and hair care and maintain healthy scalp and hair growing healthily…without burning big holes in your wallets.

That said, to know better, fix yourself an initial appointment with a specialist.

Androgenic Alopecia

Androgenic alopecia (usually called male pattern baldness) is a form of scalp and hair problem leading to hair loss to balding – this happens in varying degrees in mostly men, and some women.

There are different patterns of hair loss and balding…

-it begins above both your temples in a clear pattern, and moves to your crown. So some hair on the sides and rear is left.

-hair becomes thinner around the scalp, like in patches, but your hairline does not recede.

Those are just general common pictures and both rarely lead you to become totally bald.

Diagnosis

Trichoscopy (one of the methods) is one way to diagnose and evaluate hair and scalp diseases.  Using trichoscopy, your hair and scalp structures are magnified like 7 to 10 fold. The most common hair and scalp diseases are alopecia areata, androgenic alopecia, telogen effluvium and cicatricial alopecia – all these can be diagnosed using trichoscopy.stop hair loss and regrow hair tricoscopy

Causes

Lots of research has been done and still ongoing to find and study what can cause hair loss. Some factors are found, yet many still unknown.

That said, according to research, the common (and some other possible causes of androgenic alopecia) factor is in your genes. Some studies found pattern hair loss has something to do with androgens called dihydrotestosterone (DHT). One function of androgens in males and females is for hair growth and sex drive.

But if, genetically, our hair follicles are sensitive to DHT, androgens can make follicles shrink or ‘become small’ (miniaturize). So this prevents hair follicles from ‘re-producing’ hair normally or ‘healthily’. This eventually leads to hair loss (hairs falling faster than they can grow).

Then, there are other lifestyle, diet and hair care factors that make us lose some hair or have hair growing slowly. These are factors that we can control by making the right lifestyle and diet choices, as well as commit ourselves to treat our scalp and hair with loving care, every day. This was a condition I had (mild hair loss) and (with effort and commitment) can be controlled without using drugs or medicated treatment.

Treatment and Management To Stop Hair Loss And Regrow Hair

Treating hair loss and baldness is big money industry in especially in the US. Even in Asia, this hair business is growing fast and raking in big bucks. While using drugs to treat Male Pattern Baldness, knowing and understanding what is and how DHT works in male and female pattern baldness, enables more effective intervention to prevent DHT-androgens affecting our hair follicles (and healthy hair growth).

After all that has been said and researched, like many other medical conditions, baldness can be treated and controlled, but not cured. And many experts have strongly advised that many ‘hair loss cures and treatment’ sold out there are not really effective, apart from placebo effect to stop hair loss and regrow hair.

That said, let us look at some treatments to stop hair loss and regrow hair:

Medication

The US FDA has approved 2 medications to treat Male Pattern Baldness – minoxidil and finasteride – these are approved to treat hair loss (especially genetically related) and for hair regrowth.

1) Minoxidil

According to Wikipedia – Minoxidil is an antihypertensive vasodilator medication which also slows or stops hair loss and promotes hair regrowth. Now off-patent, it is available OTC for treatment of androgenic alopecia. It is soluble in water.

A simple picture, with this medication, though hair sheds it is followed by new thicker hairs growing. Minoxidil can be applied 1-2 times every day. But since this hair growth stimulating effect is temporary and does not make your hair follicles healthier, heal or ‘be healthily restored’, you need to keep applying minoxidil.

In fact, there is no change at all in the actual health or condition of your hair follicles or scalp, so to maintain the hairs grown, minoxidil needs to be used regularly. Soon as you stop, you go back to ‘square one’. And note, high dosage may increase your facial hair growth too.

Minoxidil has been approved to be used for both males and females. A 3-month supply cost more or less $50.

2) Finasteride

This medication to treat male pattern baldness was approved by FDA in 1997. Tests results of case studies revealed visible results of hair regrowth and controlled hair loss. This prescription only pill is very similar to minoxidil that works in the most in the crown area, and also the hairline area.

The brand names are Propecia and Proscar. This pill is approved for men only. It fights hair loss and stimulates new hair growth by ‘blocking’ DHT-androgens. One month supply costs around $70, I think.

Hair Transplant

In many cases, in the early stages of hair loss, to grow-back-hair can be ‘restored’ with medicated treatment. But if hair follicles have been destroyed, such treatments will not work. For such serious condition, you will have to give hair transplant a go and yes, this will burn a huge hole in your wallet. But in this case, this could be the best option to stop hair loss and regrow hair.

As I have shared, even for my mild hair loss (which happened because I did not care for my scalp and my health and all that, very well) I had spent thousands per year for salon or specialist treatments.

So for hair transplant, you get the money picture… But this is necessary if yours is really serious.

Hair transplantation is a surgery to move individual hair follicles from one part of the ‘donor’s’ (from where there is good hair growth) body to the bald or balding parts. This surgery treats male pattern baldness. So simply put grafts having hair follicles that are genetically resistant to balding, are ‘planted’ on to the bald parts.

There are 2 hair transplantation methods called Strip Harvesting and Follicular Unit Extraction (FUE). Both are done under sedation and local anesthesia. Strip Harvesting takes 2 weeks to heal and there will be stitches to be removed. FUE heals within 7 days, with less post-surgery pain and no need to remove stitches.

These surgeries are done outpatient usually within 6 hours. After surgery, the patient will be on antibiotics to prevent graft or wound getting infected. Before surgery it is best to avoid like alchohol, smoking and certain medications. The sessions can be in multiple sessions or just one single session.

To really know what you will be going through, get an initial consultation with the surgeon (most elite surgeons do both kinds of hair transplant surgeries). The surgeon will best evaluate, analyse and advise you your options, expectations and the best thing for you to do in this case, to stop hair loss and regrow hair.

Do ask about the side effects and prevention. For example, the common side effect is losing some hair every day but this is temporary. Other side effects may be swelling, and medication can ease this. And in case your scalp itches, do not scratch. Instead, use moisturizer to relieve your itch. Ask the surgeon for best advice – to be better prepared, get your list of questions ready prior to your appointment.

One important question related to cost of hair transplant is – how many hairs will you get?!

Each graft has 1-4 hairs. So you do the math…how many hairs can you get say with 1,000 grafts? This varies from clinic to clinic. Grafts can cost from $2.50 to $10 each. So a hair transplant procedure may cost from $2,000-$15,000 or more. This really depends on your condition.

Grateloupia Elliptica

Here is a side note or tip I got from Wikipedia – This is recent, as recorded in 2012, a study by Korean scientists showed that Grateloupia Elliptica which is a red seaweed coming from Jeju Island (South Korea) has the potential to treat androgenic alopecia and even maybe, alopecia areata!

So there is ‘red seaweed’ that may help to stop hair loss and regrow hair  🙂
